Colour Wheels

Colour Wheels - A collection of colours arranged together that compliment each other. They can be a set of primary colours, secondary colours and complimentary colours.

Colours are a key aspect when designing websites, take a look at this site
The multicoloured moving background is so distracting and makes the user want to close the website rather then take a look around the site.

Colour can also represent moods, it is believed that certain colours can affect the behaviour of people.
Red - Anger
Blue - Down/Upset
Green - Envy
Yellow - Happy

Although some colours do represent moods in certain cultures colours can represent different emotions such as white in Christianity represents virginity however in Hinduism it represents death.

Stefan Sagmeister: Typography

Stefan Sagmeister is a New York based graphic designer and typographer living in Indonesia. He has designed album covers for artists such as The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.
I first came across Sagmeister in college where i had researched typographers, his work is really unique and hands on. Using everyday objects he spells out words which are then combined together to form a quote.
' Things i have learned in my life so far' is a collection of images combines together to form a book. The front cover is his face that is laser cut and the images within the slip case form different covers.

Take a Look: http://www.sagmeister.com

I think his work is unique and current. He uses objects and areas that most people will come across and create words using them.

As a part of a college project i had researched his work and created my own here are two of my pieces.

ME IN A FEW PICTURES:

The Web

My version of the web - it is broken down into ten main sections which are then divided into thousands creating the world wide web.

2) Facebook Application For The iPhone

From the launch of the iPhone 3gs, developers have created a facebook application. With quick access to the social network users can check their inbox messages, check who is signed into their online chat and even upload pictures straight from their phone!

Having an iPhone 3gs myself, i have found this application ideal. One of my best features on this application would be the ability to upload mobile pictures on the go using my email address.
Another unique feature is the push notifications - this allows users to receive messages whilst the application is closed. You are also given the option whether you would like to turn the push notifications off or not.

User Interfaces:

1) www.mNatwork.com
The first site i have decided to include belongs to a small company called magneticNorth, they are based in the UK. They create work for the worlds most interesting companies and brands. The reason as to why i have decided to include this based on their home page - it allows the user to draw certain shapes which enables them to see various pages within the site.

There are 3 main functions of the user interface: an example of this would be the user drawing a round shape, this will then able them to view current projects. They have also worked with The doctor who series, creating a website where fans can view the trailer for the new series.

The cube in the middle of the home screen rotates and allows the user to click on any side showing selected scenes.
I really like their work as it shows innovative designs that are challenging yet affordances.

' interaction design bridges the gap between man and machine '

- Interaction Design
Interaction plays a big role and is constantly challenged. It is always evolving with new products being created.
It is mainly based on the interaction between users and computers.

- Goal Driven Design
Research is needed to see what the user demands, this is them implemented within the creation of interface. Which also allows
feedback from the user.

- Interface Is Magic
Interaction design should be as easy as 1,2,3. It shouldn't take a long time to load so that your users do not even recognise it as being an interface.

- Usability
If the interface is easy to use and understand then the interaction design is favoured.

- Affordances
The best interaction designs speak for themselves. For example a button should look like a button and a link should look like a link.

- Learn-ability
A strong knowledge of affordances create an easy learn-ability for the user. The interface should be easy to learn and straight foward.

- What Interaction Designers Actually Do
To know who exactly you are designing for and set a goal in place. Either independently or with other Interaction Designers create a strategy - this will allow you to include all possible interactions needed.

- Identify and Wire Frame
Key interactions are sketched either using pen and paper or even software's.

- Prototype Interactions
Designers may use xhtml/css prototypes, paper or protocasting.

- Stay Current
Technology is always evolving and by keeping updated this keeps designers current, by searching new interaction websites and keeping up with the latest gadgets and new HTML5.

- Summary
In conclusion an interaction designer is a professional that concentrates on designing interfaces for users so that they are easy to use and up to date with new technology. Interaction designers are always evolving their work and they way it fits in with the industry. The main aim is to create an interface that is easy to use and serves a purpose.
